About

Dunfermline Dual Control Car Hire offers a range of manual and automatic vehicles, equipped with dual controls, available for hourly rental. Designed for provisional licence holders, our cars ensure a safe learning environment whilst you are accompanied by a full licence holder.

While professional driving lessons are a great way to prepare for your test, they can be expensive and come at a significant cost. With the UK average being 45 hours of formal lessons and 22 hours of private practice before taking the test, coupled with local hourly rates ranging anywhere between £40 to £45, the total expense can quickly add up!

At Dunfermline Dual Control Car Hire we believe that you can Learn for Less by using our dual control cars for your learning journey. Our vehicles are also available for use during your driving test.

What is an accompanying driver?

An accompanying driver must be 23 years or over and must have held a full and valid UK or EU driving licence for a minimum of three years. If the accompanying driver has points on their licence, please check with our team prior to hiring, to ensure the driver is eligible. Can I use a Dunfermline Dual Control car for my driving test?

Yes, you can use one of our dual control cars for your driving test. We recommend hiring the car for at least one hour before your test to check license details and familiarise yourself with the vehicle. Please inform us when booking that you will need the car for your test. Both drivers must be present to collect the car.

What information do I need to bring with me to hire?

Both driving licences, the UK provisional for the learner and the EU or UK licence for the accompanying driver. All UK drivers should also bring their access code from the DVLA, which you can acquire from the DVLA’s online Share Driving Licence system. A valid credit or debit card to leave an imprint for any additional costs. The card must be physically shown and cannot be a digital/online only card. Proof of address (for example, a utility bill or bank statement dated within the last 3 months).

Is insurance included?

Yes insurance is included in your rental. However, an excess charge applies for any vehicle damage. You can purchase an optional excess waiver (subject to qualification).

Are there any mileage or fuel charges?

Can I drive on the motorway with a provisional licence?
